Welcome to Registry Repair.ca

The brains at Microsoft via their own computer dictionary describe a computer registry as, “A central hierarchical database used in Microsoft Windows 9x, Windows CE, Windows NT, and Windows 2000 used to store information necessary to configure the system for one or more users, applications and hardware devices.” Okay, that seems to make sense but how does that help us repair our registry, or improve computer performance? To do that we will need to know how the registry works and is configured, and the right software to do the job.

As we now know, Microsoft describes the registry as a “hierarchical database” into which all the settings and options for your computer are stored. This storage database is constantly changing as we make changes to various settings, remove or install software, change file associations, and even when we move files from one folder to another.

The windows registry is split into sections called hives. In the registry database these all begin with “HKEY”, which is an abbreviation for “Hive Key”. From there, each Hive Key is further divided into their respective subkeys. Subkeys may also contain their own subkeys, and these keys contain database entries with corresponding types of values.

In the registry you will see the following Hive Keys. Each key holds different sets of information for your computer.

  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT or HKCR
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER or HKCU
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or HKLM
  • HKEY_USERS or HKU
  • HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG or HKCC
  • HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG or HKCC

Since your registry is so critical to the operation of your computer and the performance it is capable of, it is important to keep it in good order. You can manually edit your computer’s registry, but you should be careful with what you are doing. What might not seem important might be a critical registry key for the operation of your computer. Always do a backup when editing or doing anything with your registry. This is why we recommend using registry software.

Using purpose built registry repair and maintenance software you can easily repair and maintain your computer’s registry without worrying about deleting something critical, or failing to remember to make that important backup first! Good registry software like those highlighted on Registry Repair.ca will keep your computer running smoothly and help your repair your registry should it start failing or become corrupt.

The best way of keeping your computer’s registry running in top form is to use a registry cleaner. A registry cleaner is a software program designed for your Windows operating system. The cleaner will help you remove all those unwanted or even redundant database entries from the Windows registry. Some registry cleaners also act as registry repair software. They can help you scan your registry for damaged or corrupted keys and either safely remove them or repair them.

Registry repair software programs can help you make reliable backups of your registry. And by running the cleaners often you can keep your computer system clean and clear, which can seriously improve your computer’s performance, and lesson the necessary maintenance.
